The village of Cărbuna is taking an important step towards energy efficiency and sustainability, benefiting from the support of the German Government through GIZ Moldova, the involvement of the diaspora, local residents, and the contribution of the Government of the Republic of Moldova.
For the 1,680 inhabitants of the village, access to drinking water will no longer depend on the centralized energy network and its price fluctuations. Three stations with photovoltaic panels, each with a power of 12.5 kW, have been installed to power the pumps that bring drinking water from the village's three artesian wells.
The produced solar energy will allow the reduction of the tariff for drinking water by half, which is currently 10 lei/m³.
“These panels will allow us to reduce the tariff, providing locals with more affordable access to water,” said Constantin Cecoi, the mayor of Cărbuna village. The residents are delighted with the savings they will make. "I pay over 300 lei per month for water, but with the photovoltaic panels, our bill will be just over 100 lei," mentioned Aliona Inculeț, president of the Public Association "Ghiocel de Cărbuna."The project is part of the DAR 1+3 program, carried out within the initiative 'Energy-Resilient Communities for Moldova', supported by AEER, the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy in Moldova, and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
